The Net ( the students association, Tan Chang ) At 18:30p.m., on May 24th, our school held a Chinese delicacy class in the Hundred Lotuses Community. The class was hosted by the secretariat of the students association. The minister of the secretariat, Qian Chang, was the keynote speaker. The assistant of the dean of the International School, Mr. Liu Qinghua and most of the teachers attended the class to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival in advance with international students. They taught international students to make zongzi and gave them sachets. Before class, the members of the students association gave sachets to every international student present to express holiday wishes. Then, the class began. The speaker first introduced the origin and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival in detail. The international students focused on it with enjoyment, and some of them took notes carefully. They showed great interest in Chinese traditional festivals. Next, the speaker showed the international students how to make zongzi, and the international students studied every step carefully. The class atmosphere was lively and harmonious. With the help of the members of the students association, the international students made zongzi with presentable shapes. All people who attended the class took a group photo after they tasted zongzi, and the class ended successfully.
Some of the international students said that their countries do not have this kind of food. They thought zongzi taste sweet and smooth and delicious. They also said they were willing to try some similar Chinese delicacies and to understand different cultures.
Various and interesting Chinese traditional festivals are important carriers of Chinese national spirit and emotion. This class connected Chinese delicacies with Chinese traditional festivals. This kind of theme activity will let international students experience the strong atmosphere of Chinese festivals and let them feel and appreciate the rich connotation of Chinese traditional culture.
